Summary Statement of Faith
|
|
The following is an inexhaustive summary statement of our beliefs.
- We believe in and teach the absolute authority and divine
verbal inspiration of the Old and New Testaments as the
Word of God.
- We believe and teach that there is but one living and true
God; and that in the Godhead, there are three persons, equal
in power and glory, God the Father, God the Son, and God
the Holy Ghost.
- We believe in and teach the eternal Sonship, virgin birth,
and deity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
- We believe and teach that man was originally made with a
perfect righteousness before God, but that since the fall man
is depraved in every aspect of his being. As such, natural man
has absolutely no ability to repent of sin or come to Christ in faith.
- We believe and teach that salvation is wholly a work of God in
which God performs the following for those he has sovereignly
elected from before all time:
- He convicts the sinner of his sinful and miserable estate which
arises solely out of the sinner's willful offense against God and
his holy Law;
- He enlightens the heart and mind of the sinner in a true Biblical
knowledge of Jesus Christ's person and work;
- He renews the will of the sinner giving him an immediate and
irresistible ability to come to God in repentance and faith;
- He preserves the redeemed sinner in the state of salvation
through all eternity and, in time, brings the redeemed sinner to be
with him forever in Heaven.
- We believe and teach that all sinners who are not brought to
salvation through faith stand eternally condemned before God
for their sin and that all such eternally condemned souls will
exist eternally tormented in a real place called Hell.
- We believe and teach that though salvation is wholly the
work of God, it has pleased our Lord to use redeemed
sinners to preach his Gospel to a lost world. We believe that
evangelism is an important part of the obedient Christian's faith.
- We believe in and teach the true Biblical personality of
God the Holy Spirit, and the absolute necessity of his
work in regeneration and sanctification, and his infilling
of the indwelt believer for power to live and witness for
Christ. We reject contemporary charismatic errors.
- We hold to and teach the substitutionary death of the
Lord Jesus Christ and his resurrection as the only way of
salvation through faith.
- We believe and teach that God has appointed besides the
Word and prayer the ordinances of believer's baptism and
the Lord's Supper.
- We believe in and teach the spiritual unity of all believers
in Jesus Christ and we cherish every scriptural expression
of that unity. However, we reject the unscriptural attempts
at church union by such organizations as the World
Council of Churches and Evangelicals and Catholics
Together.
- We believe in and teach the visible and personal return
of our Lord Jesus Christ at a time which no man can now know.
- We believe and teach that salvation is by faith alone in
Christ alone without the addition of human works.
